Wednesday, 9 January 2013

Shannon Craig is a new face around Rydges Esplanade Resort, Cairns but she is definitely no stranger to the hospitality industry nor the famous hotel and resort group. With more than a decade of hospitality experience under her belt, Shannon has brought her expertise to the Far North as the newly appointed Resident Manager.

Rydges Hotels and Resorts  Area General Manager for Cairns Matthew Hurley said Shannon’s experience and qualifications proved her commitment and passion for the industry.

“Shannon has held positions in sales and marketing, through to management and in each role she has proven she has what it takes to get the best for the business, and of course our guests,” Mr Hurley said. “Shannon’s passion is undeniable and we are pleased she has joined the Rydges Esplanade Resort team as Resident Manager.”

Although new to Cairns, Shannon has been employed by Rydges Hotels and Resorts  for the past five years working in management positions in Canberra and New South Wales. Most recently Shannon was the General Manager at Rydges Eagle Hawk Resort, located on the ACT and NSW borders.  During her three years there she played an integral role in increasing house profit and guest satisfaction.

Prior to this Shannon was employed at Rydges Lakeside Canberra for two years, working her way up from Sales Manager to Executive Assistant Manager. Shannon has also held positions Townsville and Auckland, NZ.

The passionate hospitality professional is currently studying for her Master of Business Administration (MBA) after achieving a Diploma of Management in 2010.

Her career highlights include being a finalist of the Telstra Business Women’s Awards ACT in 2010 and the winner of the North Queensland Tourism Awards in the Meetings and Business Tourism category in 2006. In 2012, she accepted the Best Environmental Practice ACT in the AHA Awards.
Shannon takes over from Steven Oakley, who took on the role of General Manager at QT Port Douglas.

The 240-room, 20 apartment Rydges Esplanade Resort is situated on Cairns Esplanade with uninterrupted waterfront views  - just minutes from Cairns Airport and a short stroll into the city and CBD. With all the comforts of home, the resort-style hotel also features a swimming pool, an award winning restaurant, health club and tennis courts.
