Territory women given opportunity to attend first National Rural Women’s Conference

Wednesday, 19 December 2012

The Territory Government will support two Territory women to attend the inaugural National Rural Women’s Conference in Canberra on 18-20 February 2013.

Janet Buhagiar, Director of Social Policy at the Department of the Chief Minister, said that the two scholarships totalling $2,400 will cover registration fees, meals and accommodation to attend the conference.

“The scholarships are targeted at women in regional, rural and remote areas who would not otherwise be able to attend the conference,” Ms Buhagiar said.

“The two-and-a-half day conference includes presentations from approximately 30 speakers sharing their experience of business, community, rural issues and the joys and challenges of rural life.

“We are committed to ensuring women from across the Territory continue to contribute and benefit from exciting future developments in the Territory.

“The conference will bring together women of all ages from all over Australia to network, learn, share, celebrate and play an active role in shaping their future.

“This is a fantastic opportunity and I encourage Territory women to apply.”

The conference concludes with a dinner at Parliament House to celebrate the contribution of all women to the fabric of Australian life, held in partnership with the Canberra Centenary Celebrations.

Applications close on 21 December 2012.
